How to regrow hair - new breakthrough research

How to regrow hair – new breakthrough research

Posted in Baldness | Comments Off

Close to 35 million men and 21 million women are affected by hair loss. These shocking figures apply to the United States alone. Women are estimated to make up 40 percent of hair-loss sufferers in America. This will astonish many given that hair loss is thought to be more of a male disease.

The good news however is that Scientists in Britain and the USA are closer to finding a cure for the condition. This will be made possible through generation of new hair follicles grown from human hair. The cells are harvested from either the dermal papillae or the base of a human hair follicle. They are then cloned in a lab and later the clones are implanted into human skin. Trials done on mice showed great positive results. The cells used were taken from the dermal papillae of 7 different human donors and then implanted on their backs. 5 of the 7 mice grew hair.

Human trials are yet to be done but the scientists have so far expressed great confidence that this treatment is going to revolutionize the treatment of hair loss. The success of the human clinical trials could open many possibilities such as growing hair follicles for skin grafts for burnt patients and traditional transplantation. It could also make it possible for new hair follicles to be created by injecting the cells directly into the scalp. Women will highly benefit from this since they experience a more hard time recovering to balding treatments such as transplantation.

In as much as hair loss can neither be reversed nor the balding process halted, this milestone is a step closer to finding the cure of hair loss in form of regenerative medicine. The body will be able to restore hair using its own cells. Drug companies will also be allowed to test different compounds on developing hair follicles. This will be a stepping stone for drug companies to come up with drugs that can combat the condition.

Anorexia nervosa treatment

The Mandometer Method is a technique used to treat eating disorders. Patients are taught how to eat appropriately, recognize hunger and establish the normal perception of satiety using a tiny computer that obtains information from a small scale placed beneath their plates of food. The patients are able to view their eating rate levels of satiety on the screen. This is then compared to the eating rate and satiety of a normal individual which is also shown on the screen. This method helps the patients learn how to model their unhealthy pattern of eating into the normal pattern. Anorexia nervosa treatment

Sooner rather than later, synthesized music will have the ability to cure tinnitus. The vibrations produced by such music improved the symptoms of majority of the patients when it was first put to trial. This is a kind of sonic treatment that reprograms the brain. The sound vibrations that pass behind the ear via a bone were actually responsible for improving the symptoms of 8 out of every 10 patients who had received a dose of the therapy two times every week. This is known as the Ultraquiet therapy. How to get rid of tinnitus

Treatment for alzheimers

Scientists can now confidently say that they are a step closer towards beating Alzheimer’s disease. This is after the discovery of a compound akin to a drug that was used to prevent death and destruction of brain cells in mice. This discovery paves a new and significant pathway for the future of Alzheimer’s treatment. Treatment for alzheimers

The compound functions by blocking the faulty signal found in brains affected by neurodegenerative diseases. This faulty signal is what inhibits the production of essential proteins in the brain, causing the brain cells to be unprotected and eventually die off. It has been tested on mice suffering from Prion’s disease. Scientists were confident that the results exhibited would apply the same principles in a human brain affected by diseases such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Treatment for alzheimers
